(photo: Skyler Lloyd)Wishbone Zoe is the prolific creative project of Zosia Kochanski, spanning indie rock, art rock and folk songs, experimental sound collage, multi-media performance, self-taught frame-by-frame animation and poetry.
Her work as a musician is bolstered by her visual art, with many albums emerging as multi-discipline pieces beginning with an album & graphic libretto in 2014, continuing with a poetry chapbook including pieces that would later become songs, several short albums as a third of EIEIEIO, and a five year stint making music videos for her and other bands’ work with traditional animation. Her 2020 sound collage album, performance piece and short film “Here I’m” received international screenings and accolades in France and Portugal.
WZ’s new album “Psyche’s Romp” is a return to her rock roots featuring collaborations with a three-piece band of Western/Eastern MA luminaries: JJ O’Connell (Spouse, Kahoots), and Paul Kochanski (Lori McKenna, Stompbox Trio), guest musicians including Aaron Noble (Prewn, Saliba) and Jim Fitting (Treat Her Right, Session Americana), and the production work of Dave Chalfant. The collection nods appreciatively to 70s power-pop in band presentation and Kochanski’s melody-driven compositions, but like Wishbone’s other past work, the music remains unbound to conventional song structures and styles.
